Planning a Holiday or Valentine's Proposal? Your Ring-Buying Timeline
If you are planning to propose between Thanksgiving and Valentine's Day, you are in the largest company of the year. This page lays out when proposals actually happen, how far ahead to start looking for the ring, and the few decisions to make in order so the day itself is the only thing you have to think about.

When people propose
Reporting based on The Knot's proposal research puts roughly 40 to 47 percent of all proposals in the stretch from Thanksgiving — November 26, 2026 — through Valentine's Day, February 14, 2027. December alone accounts for about 19 percent of proposals, and Christmas Day is the most popular single day of the year to propose, with Christmas Eve, New Year's Day, and Valentine's Day also near the top of the list. The reasons are practical as much as romantic: family is already gathered, the decorations do half the work, and the holidays give the moment a date that is easy to remember and easy to celebrate every year after.
Work backwards from the day
Start from the date you have in mind and count back. For a ring chosen from the case, starting a few weeks ahead is a sensible pace: it leaves time to look at more than one style, compare stones side by side, and have the ring ready in her size rather than settling for whatever fits the calendar. For a Valentine's Day proposal, that means starting in January is comfortable and starting in the first days of February is cutting it closer than most people enjoy.
Custom work is different. A ring made to order — a stone chosen separately, a setting built around it — takes longer than choosing a finished ring, and how much longer depends on the design. The only safe rule is to start early and talk to the store before you fix the date in your head. Call the store at (561) 739-3339, describe what you are picturing, and we will tell you plainly whether your date works for it.

Choosing the ring
The choice itself comes down to the shape of the stone, the style of the setting, and the metal — in that order. Our Engagement Ring Guide walks through each decision in plain terms, including how to make a budget go furthest. When you are ready to look at actual rings, the ring finder in our bridal collection lets you filter by shape and metal and see only the rings that match what you are picturing. In the store, a diamond top magnetically attaches to different band types, so you can try the same top on several bands and see the finished combination on a hand before anything is made.

Getting her size without asking
If the proposal is a surprise, her ring size is the one fact you need quietly. Our Ring Size Guide covers ways to find it at home, including measuring from a ring she already wears. For sizing assistance, please call the store at (561) 739-3339. Larger sizes in gold may be subject to an additional charge.
After the yes
Once the ring is on her hand, our Jewelry Care Guide covers the everyday habits and cleaning that keep it looking its best.
